BUS SERVICE INFORMATION
There is a lawsuit pending filed by several of our Staten Island politicians and a group of parents requesting reinstatement of school bus service to students in Grades 7 and 8.
NYC has now filed an appeal on Judge John Fusco's restraining order to prevent the city from cutting bus service while the lawsuit goes to trial. Although the trial is scheduled to begin on September 13th, the city is hoping a panel of judges in the state Supreme Court's Appellate Division in Brooklyn will throw out the lawsuit to stop the bus cuts before the trial begins.
The judges are expected to make a decision on the city's appeal by this Wednesday. The Staten Island politicians and the group filing the lawsuit expressed concern that although bus service may be provided for eligible students in Grades 7 and 8 at the beginning of this school year, there is no guarantee that the service will continue throughout the year. They are also concerned that if the city is permitted to cut services to students in Grades 7 and 8 now, they may try to change the eligibility rules for students in lower grades in the future. THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!!!! .
